Newsmeat

I was planning on going to bed early, but I just spent the last hour at Newsmeat.com's Hall of Fame, where it lists the political donations of various celebrities in the United States. It combines perhaps the worst of America (celebrities and politics), but that's what makes it so good.

I thought these ones were interesting:

  • Actors, Directors, Producers - mostly Democrat
  • Authors, Game Show Hosts, Porn stars - mostly Republican
  • Athletes are all over the map. Football players and coaches, Golfers, and NASCAR drivers are mostly Republican. Basketball players and coaches are mostly Democrat
  • Quincy Jones - McCain in 2000, Kerry/Dean in 2003-2004, Clinton in 2007
  • Commissioners: Bud Selig (MLB), Gary Bettman (MLB) and David Stern (NBA) are Democrats. Roger Goodell (NFL) is a Republican
  • Anderson Cooper's only political donation was to a Republican
  • Supposed Populist Lou Dobbs donated to Bush in 2001
  • Hugh Hefner donated to both Clinton and Obama
  • Ariana Huffington - 76% republicans - last donation in 1993
  • Dr. Phil donated $1,000 to Phil Gramm's campaign for President
  • Tim McGraw is a Democrat! And his real first name is Samuel???
  • Prince is a Republican! And his full name is Prince Rogers Nelson
  • Sylvester Stallone is a Republican who's political donations have been 56% Democrat
  • Maury Povich donated to George W. Bush in 2004 and Barack Obama in 2007
  • Ted Nugent is a Republican, but 67% of his donations have gone to Democrats
  • Black celebrities (Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Will Smith, Sidney Poitier) like Barack Obama for some reason
  • Howard Stern donated $250 to John Samuel Hagelin's dynamic presidential campaign in 1992
  • Tracy Lords is billed as an "actress, former porn star"
  • Tony Sirico is billed as "actor, ex-con"
  • Gordon Liddy is billed as "radio talk show host, Watergate convict"
  • Candy Spelling, wife of Aaron Spelling, is billed as "Hollywood wife"
  • Muhammad Ali is billed as "greatest of all time"
