History

Picture from the Worldwide Leader.

I was sitting at my computer desk, checking emails, when Barry Bonds came up and hit his 756th Home Run.

I was also DVRing the game, but because the Giants-Nationals Game preempted something called "Down the Barrel" on ESPN2, my recording of the home run cuts out as Barry fouls a 3-2 pitch away.

Thankfully, there's always YouTube and ESPN News.

A lot has been said and will continue to be said. And let's face it, Barry Bonds is a cheater. He took steroids and transformed himself from a reasonably normal human being to The Incredible Hulk. And the weird thing is that he didn't need steroids to become great. Barry Bonds over the last eight years is the equivalent of the Wonder Woman having a baby with Batman and Superman as his godfather, and that baby growing up to take steroids. He cheated and he's now the Home Run King.

But let's also face the fact that A LOT of people were taking steroids or other performing enhancing drugs in that era, in almost every sport, and none of them did the things that Barry did. Other than Michael Jordan, he's the best athlete I've ever seen. By far.

I'm glad it's finally over. Maybe tomorrow I'll go to bed at a reasonable time.
