Top Ten of the Aughts

It's weird to think about, but we're approaching the end of the decade. So to celebrate, I decided to make a series of Top 10 lists of anything and everything I can think of that has to do with the 00s. Also, it's a way for me to bring up the most important decision of our time: what we are we going to call this decade. "Zero-Zeros" just won't cut it. Neither would "Oh-Ohs." I think we should call it the "Aughts", because although I have no idea where that comes from and why people called the 1900s that, I think it's a lot of fun to say. Aughts Aughts Aughts.

This will likely be something I forget about, so for now, I'm just going to stick with something easy, my Top 10 films of the Aughts. This will be a preliminary list, and since there are many movies I haven't seen, and many movies that have yet to be released, I'll update the list periodically if I watch anything that manages to breakthrough into the Top 10. The criteria for the list is very simple, I looked at lists on IMDB.com, a list of Academy Award winners, lists at BoxOfficeMojo.com, etc, and when I saw a movie that I liked, I thought about whether or not I liked it better than another movie on the list. It came together fairly quickly, because I already had a good idea of what my favorite movies of the Aughts were.

I would like to stress that this is my list. Yes, I know that Lord of the Rings: Return of the King from Aught-Three won 11 Academy Awards. No, I don't think it's one of the ten best films of the decade. In fact, aside from The Departed in Aught-Six, I don't have any Best Picture winners from the Aughts. That's not to say that the Best Pictures from this decade weren't good . I actually think that in-all the AMPAS has done a good job with their awards. I just like these ten movies. People reading this may also notice that films from Aught-One, Aught-Three, and Aught-Five aren't on this list. Again, I haven't seen every movie from every year and this list will almost definitely be revisited. So don't worry, Aught-Five, your day may soon be coming.
