What I liked:
-The return of Jin, one of the better characters on the show. Coupled with the revelation of YOUNG Rousseau, there's another interesting subplot that they just threw in there. It'll be fun, and potentially annoying, to see whether or not the upcoming episodes will be able to juggle this many plots going on at the same time
-The Time Travel. I really dug the shootout on the canoe, with the white light saving them and Sawyer thanking the Island, and then a second later they're in a massive rainstorm at sea. Not much was revealed about the phenomenon, other than it gives them nosebleeds (not the buried Hydrogen Bomb like I thought), but I like that they're taking time out to get viewers familiar to what could be a confusing storyline, before revealing what's next.
-Badass Sayid. It's unfortunate that 24 isn't on ABC or Lost isn't on FOX, because a Jack Bauer vs. Sayid crossover would be the greatest TV episode of all time. Someone needs to bring MacGyver out of retirement so they could just throw those three characters into a cage and see what happens.
-Evil Sun. She's not really evil, because she's going against Ben, but she's carrying guns and is considering kidnapping 2 year old Australian kids. It's a far cry from the woman who pretended she couldn't speak English 4 seasons ago.
-Ben Linus being Ben Linus. Anyone who's watched Lost over the past could see that Ben was behind the lawyer stalking Kate, but I loved how he just copped up to the deed. Right now he's the best character on TV. One of the most interesting subplots of this season is how Ben manages to convince all the survivors to trust him, or if that actually happens.
What I didn't like
-The Jack-Kate-Sawyer love triangle. I'm not necessarily against love stories, I think the Desmond-Penny and Jin-Sun stories are great, but this one is something that should have been decided two or three seasons ago. When they do the whole "Oh yeah, Sawyer loves Kate, no wait, Jack also loves Kate!" angle, I want to poke my eyes out. Kate has great chemistry with Sawyer, she has almost no chemistry with Jack. It shouldn't be a love triangle, but somehow it is.
-Locke's explanation for why the Island keeps traveling through time. I'm sure it will all come together and make sense by the end of the season, but it'd be nice if they at least brushed over why he feels that bringing back the Oceanic Six would stop all the time travel problems. Right now it seems like he feels that way because that's how the story is supposed to go. Locke's motivations are always a little shady, but it could get annoying soon if they don't explain the logic behind them.
-Claire's mom. Maybe there's more to her showing up than "She's suing Oceanic", but to throw her in there as bait-and-switch before inevitable revelation that Ben was behind the plot all along was sloppy.
