Not my video, but I went to the All-Star game. And like most important games at Yankee Stadium, the most exciting moment is The Great Mariano Rivera's entrance. His first name should officially be changed to The Great Mariano, if it isn't already.
I've been to a ton of Yankee games, but other than Game 5 of the ALCS in 2001, that's the loudest I've ever heard The Stadium. This video doesn't really capture how electric it was when Mo came out. For that matter, neither did the Fox broadcast where they stupidly cut to commercial as Mo was running to the mound.
A close second was the whole opening ceremony with the Hall of Famers, ending with Yogi Berra and the giant "Yogi" chants echoing throughout The Stadium. how Yankee fans got on Jonathan Papelbon, who pitched well but looked pretty rattled by the whole thing.
My take is that Papelbon a good closer who clearly respects Rivera, but is a complete idiot if he was actually surprised that the New York media jumped on him for saying he should start the All-Star Game over Rivera. He's a good closer, but he's not as good as Rivera this season or any season.
And Papelbon will never be as good as Rivera. And I'm not saying that because I'm a Yankee fan and he's a Red Sox. I think Paps is a top 5 closer in the game today, but Rivera is legitimately one of the greatest baseball players of all time.
Mo is also one of the greatest human beings ever. When he travels to the Yankee Stadium, he does so by walking across the Harlem River.
