Like Hope, Only Not

The will.i.am music video inspired by Barack Obama's "Yes We Can" speech after the New Hampshire primary is sweeping the internet with over 5 million video views on youtube (counting all the uploaded versions of this inspirational video). It really is a great video, making Obama's speech seem really significant, even though if you think about it, he's just speaking in platitudes and not really saying anything substantial. But that's not what you do in political speeches, which Obama clearly gets and Hillary Clinton hasn't managed to grasp, which is why Obama has the big Mo and Clinton has been floundering despite the big Super Tuesday wins in California and New York. Even the most staunch Republican has to admit that Obama is one hell of a speaker. He could read ransom notes and make them sound inspiring. Plus he's black, and the time seems right for a remixed version of Hail to the Chief.

However, let's not forget John McCain, the maverick Republican turned who's now the conservative establishment candidate for President of the United States. I don't agree with him on anything except sports related issues, so I don't see myself voting for him for anything that didn't involve the words "boxing commissioner" or "towel boy for the Arizona Cardinals". McCain seems like a likable enough guy, though. Everything he says sounds like he's being nice, even though sometimes the words coming out of his mouth are superfuckingcrazyinsane. And I don't get the feeling that he's a secretly devious guy like I had with Bush in 2000, or the feeling that he's an openly devious guy like I got with Bush in 2004. I get the same feeling about McCain that I had when Bob Dole was running in 1996, which is "Wow, that man is fucking old".

These McCain videos are just as, if not more, inspiring than the "Yes We Can" Obama video.
