Here comes trouble

It's Election Night, and the Democrats have taken back the House of Representatives by a large margin. I think this is great, because it transforms CSPAN from the most boring channel on TV to maybe the 2nd or 3rd most exciting (behind only HBO and maybe the Food Network). John Conyers and Harry Waxman with subpoena power and George W. Bush in the White House is Must-See TV.

Although the ramifications of Nancy Pelosi becoming Speaker of the House and third in line for the Presidency will become clear over the next two years, the election was not the most important news story of the day. Oh no, the most important news story of the day, was this shocking, breaking news story here:

This text message exchange I had with my roommate pretty much sums it up.

Me: Britney is divorcing K-Fed
Manny: YES! She's going to get hot again then I'll be waiting by the phone.

Honestly, I'm kind of skeptical (not about Manny waiting by the phone for Britney to call him, because he's dumb and would do that). It's going to take a heroic effort by Britney and her handlers to recover from the Federline era. Still, it feels like Michael Jordan coming back from retirement, only instead of playing minor league baseball, MJ married a deadbeat and spent two years chainsmoking and getting pregnant.

We can only hope.

I'm not talking about blind optimism here...No, I'm talking about something more substantial. It's the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs; the hope of immigrants setting out for distant shores; the hope of a young naval lieutenant bravely patrolling the Mekong Delta; the hope of a millworker's son who dares to defy the odds; the hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too. The audacity of hope!
--Sen. Barack Obama (D - Illinois)
