Come on down

There are moments you will always remember. Unless you get Alzheimers, then you won't remember anything. I'll always remember the exact call the first time the Yankees won the World Series in my lifetime ("Hayes has room! Hayes...MAKES THE CATCH! The Yankees are champions of baseball!"), I'll always remember 9/11, and I'll always remember today, the day that Bob Barker announced that he's leaving The Price is Right.

I had just gotten home from work, carrying a meatball sub and a Gatorade into the living room so I could watch the 6:30 repeat of Pardon the Interruption. I turned on my computer to look up movie times for Saw III because I'm going to the movies and get drunk (don't ask) for Halloween. I opened up a tab for Moviefone.com, I opened up another tab for ESPN.com, and another tab for CNN.com. I took a quick glance at the headlines and saw "TV Icon decides time is right to quit 'Price is Right'"

And frankly, I was stunned.

I don't remember what life was like without Bob Barker. When I was younger, and I was sick, or when I pretended to be sick to get out of going to detention, I would lie on the couch and watch The Price is Right on CBS. My favorite games were PLINKO and rooting for people to fall down spinning the big wheel on the Showcase Showdown. It took me all the way to college, when I got my schedule freshman year and found out that I was free from 11:05 to 1:15, the first thing I thought was "I better get back in time so I can catch The Price is Right".

In the early 90s, Bob Barker was accused of sexually harassing one of the models on the show. What I thought great that he admitted to having "hanky panky" with the model and that it was consensual. Bob Barker wasn't just a gameshow host, he was also a hero for truth. I only hope that when I eventually get accused of sexually harassing one of the models who work for me, I will have the courage to admit that I did have hanky panky with her and that she agreed to it.

One thing that surprised me was finding out Bob Barker was 82 years old. I didn't know that Bob Barker was 82 years old. He's one of those people that don't seem to age. He looks exactly the same as I remember him as a kid. Maybe he has always been 82 years old and we just don't know it.

82 years young is more accurate.

Thanks Bob.
